How the Child Clinic Team Enhances Doctoral Training

Updated: Nov 13, 2024

The Child Clinic team offers bi-weekly meetings throughout the fall, spring, and summer semesters. As this team does not require a year-long commitment, students have the flexibility to attend meetings and participate in additional projects at their discretion. All PsyD students are welcome to attend any of our meetings to receive consultation or training related to child and adolescent psychology. Additionally, students have the opportunity to serve as peer supervisor on the team. Peer supervisors lead group consultation and didactic trainings throughout the year. The Child Clinic team provides students with opportunities for training, consultation, and leadership, with flexible participation options available throughout the year.

Child Clinic offers an enriching array of didactic presentations and case consultation opportunities designed to enhance students' clinical skills. Some past didactic presentations have focused on managing externalizing behaviors, assessing risk with children and adolescents, differential diagnoses and treatment for ADHD, psychosis in childhood, and trauma-informed care for children with adverse experiences. Additionally, our case consultation meetings provide an interactive space where students can discuss complex cases under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, receive feedback from peers, and collaborate on effective treatment plans. These opportunities foster professional growth, critical thinking, and hands-on experience in child and adolescent mental health care.

-Morganne Oliver, 3rd year Psy.D. student

As an aspiring child psychologist, the child clinic provides me with a valuable opportunity to develop my clinical expertise. I gain insight from case consultations, broaden my knowledge through didactics, and engage in a supportive, encouraging environment where participation is welcomed and met with kindness. If you're interested in becoming a child psychologist or want to engage in discussions and learning about working with children and adolescents, the child clinic is the perfect place for you. Overall, the child clinic offers an excellent environment for growth, making it an ideal setting for anyone passionate about advancing their skills in child psychology.
